“Tesla” is by far the most well known electric car brand and has been so for the past couple of years. Tesla is an independent American automaker company which is funded by none other than its CEO, “Elon Musk” who contrary to popular believe isn’t the founder of Tesla. It was founded by “Martin Eberhard” and “Marc Tarpenning” and was named after the electrical engineer and physicist “Nikola Tesla”. Tesla initially had a rough start with their 1st car having technical problems after it was launched, but with the engineers and designers working together to consistently produce good looking and reliable electric cars Tesla has made quite a name for itself. In 2012 Tesla launched the “Tesla Model S” which was a huge success after which all of their cars including the Tesla Model X and the Tesla Model S P100D have been a massive hit with the people. However, their new concept for an electric supercar is sure to blow the minds of every car enthusiast.
The “Tesla Roadster 2020” is a complete facelift of their very 1st car the Tesla Roadster. Compared to the old Roadster which borrowed its entire chassis from the Lotus Elise the new Tesla Roadster is built from brand new parts that have been manufactured by Tesla themselves. It has a sharp, angular and aggressive look with diffusers in the rear and active aerodynamics.
Interiors are just as empty as all the other Tesla cars with all the controls the driver would ever need located in Tesla’s signature giant screen infotainment system, two cup holders in the centre arm rest, an all digital gauge cluster and a simple yet classy looking steering wheel. Tesla also claims that the new Roadster will incorporate their brand new “Autonomous Driving System” (ADS) which will allow the car to take you from one destination to another without you having to so much as touch the steering wheel.
The good thing about not having an internal combustion engine is that it saves a lot of weight. Combine that with an all- wheel drive system and three 200kw electric motors that together produce a claimed torque figure of 7,400 lb-ft. When the Tesla Roadster 2020 was unveiled in 2017 Tesla claimed it will be capable of doing 0-97 kmph in just 1.9 secs and 0-161 kmph in 4.2 secs. They claimed it will be able to complete the ¼ mile in 8.9 secs and will achieve a top speed of over 400 kmph. If Tesla is able to achieve these numbers in their production car they will single-handedly break every land-speed record ever set.
The 2020 in “Tesla Roadster 2020” actually stands for the year in which the car will officially be ready for sale. As of 2017 when the car was launched, pre-orders of the Roadster have begun with a $50,000 deposit required and Tesla plans to use these deposits to help them cover their capital expenditures in the production of the Roadster.
