“Maserati” is an Italian luxury vehicle manufacturer established in 1914. The Maserati mantra is “Luxury, Sports and Style cast in exclusive cars”, and its mission statement is to “Build ultra-luxury performance automobiles with timeless Italian style, accommodating bespoke interiors and effortless signature sounding power.” Maserati has some pretty impressive vehicles to its name such as the Maserati Quattroporte, the Maserati GranTurismo and not to forget their very own hypercar the Maserati MC12. In 2011, Maserati launched their first SUV called the “Maserati Levante” at the Frankfurt Autoshow. Over the years they have built 3 different versions of this car those being the;
However at the 2018 New York International Autoshow Maserati launched a brand new, more luxurious and more powerful version of the Levante.
This is the “Maserati Levante Trofeo”, the most powerful and most luxurious SUV ever manufactured by Maserati.
“Trofeo” is an Italian word meaning “Trophy” which is exactly what this car is meant to be for its buyer. The aggressively sculpted front grille gives the car a mean and sharp look while at the same time retaining the classic Maserati look. The double LED light strips in the headlights give the Levante Trofeo a distinctively sporty look. While not obvious the Levante Trofeo does posses some qualities that can be traced back to sports car levels of aerodynamics such as the three separate air vents in the front, flared arches and a sporty Quad Exhaust set-up. But all the exteriors of the car mean nothing until “The Trident of Neptune” is placed by hand of the front grille completing the look.
Even though the Levante Trofeo is a sporty version of a luxury SUV, Maserati knows how to take care of their customers comfort. The front and rear seats are covered the in the world’s finest leather and have the Maserati logo hand-stitched into the head rest. The beautiful 3-spoked steering wheel comes in two options those being Leather or Carbon Fibre. All the buttons fall perfectly into the drivers reach and are easy to use. The all digital gauge cluster and the infotainment centre show the driver exactly what he wants. All in all the entire interior of the car is tailored to give its driver and passengers the feeling of being special and elegant.
Being the sporty version the Levante Trofeo had a lot of ground to cover in order to compete with the other cars in its class. Knowing this Maserati ditched the V6 from its previous iterations and incorporated a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing 590hp and 538 lb-ft of torque. The Levante Trofeo also features the ZF 8-speed automatic transmission from the 6th Gen Maserati Quattroporte as well as a four-wheel drive system which can allow it to do 0-100 kmph in just 3.9 secs and top out at just under 300 kmph. In addition, the Levante Trofeo also features some the world’s most sophisticated air suspension technology.
Powered by a Ferrari built engine the Maserati Levante Trofeo is Italy’s answer to the BMW X5 M, Porsche Cayenne Turbo and the Mercedes-AMG GLE63. The Lamborghini Urus doesn’t count as it is significantly more expensive than the other cars in this class which is good news as it gives the Levante Trofeo a chance to shine. “Levante” is an Italian word which means “Rising”, which goes to show that Maserati has high hopes for the entire Levante line-up to raise Maserati to the top.
