“Jaguar” is luxury car brand of “Jaguar Land Rover”, a British multinational car manufacturer which is currently under the ownership of none other than “Tata Motors” since 2008. “Jaguar Cars” was the company that was responsible for the production of all Jaguar cars until its operations were merged with that of Land Rover to form “Jaguar Land Rover” on 1st January 2013. Jaguar has some of the greatest luxury sedans to its name and is famous for creating track versions of those sedans, the most well known of them being the “Jaguar F-Type SVR” and “Jaguar F-Pace SV”. However this one in particular, Jaguar claims is the most powerful car they have ever built.
This is the “Jaguar XE SV Project 8”. “SV” or “SVO” stands for “Special Vehicle Operations” which is a unit of Jaguar responsible for creating the fastest, most luxurious and also incorporating the highest levels of technology into each SV car.
The body of the “Jaguar XE Project 8” has been extensively redesigned from its luxury sedan counterpart the “Jaguar XE” to have aerodynamic capabilities essential for a car to be able to hit 200mph. This includes a front splitter, a rear diffuser and a large rear wing of which the front splitter and the rear wing a manually adjustable. The wing’s angle of attack can be fine tuned to either reduce drag or maximise downforce. In the interiors, the luxury front seats have been swapped out for special racing bucket seats produced by SVO and the rear seats have been swapped out for an aluminium roll-cage to reduce weight and to have the car track ready.
Even though Jaguar has built this car for the track, they still have a little soft spot for luxury. The Project 8 comes standard with a 5-inch screen for its infotainment centre, a digital gauge cluster, air conditioning and optional heated & cooled seats.
The “Jaguar XE Project 8” uses a reworked version of “Jaguar Land Rover’s” famous 5.0-litre supercharged V8 as its powerplant which produces 600hp making it the most powerful road car ever built by Jaguar. The transmission used is the 8-speed ZF transmission same as the regular XE, but with a much more aggressive software running the gears making them shift much faster. It also features an all-wheel drive system with a “Torque Vectoring Rear Differential”. This car comes standard with Carbon Fibre brakes and huge 6-piston brake calipers at the front wheels. The special lightweight forged alloy wheels built by SVO exclusively for the Project 8 deliver a light and precise steering feel for the driver and surrounded with specially developed Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres makes the car grip the tarmac around the tightest of corners.
Since its launch the Project 8 has had tough competition from the likes of the Mercedes C63 AMG, BMW M4 GTS and the Porsche GT3. Jaguar has already termed the Project 8 as the Mercedes C63 Killer and also has already dismissed the BMW M4 GTS on the basis of it having 100 more horsepower. And now sets its eyes on the car everyone in the automotive industry looks to beat. Only time will tell if the Jaguar XE Project 8 has what it takes to beat one of the most versatile cars in the history of the automotive industry.
