We Indians are very demanding and always like to look at the bigger picture. From homes to our mobiles, we like our possessions to be king size for the matter of fact our cars too even if the car is a HATCHBACK. But then you would say HATCHBACKS are compact and how can we consider them to be big….?
Agreed they are compact and small but this is where our INDIAN AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY jumps in and says “Hey, you know what, it’s not necessary that a compact looking car must always look like a small bug”. Hell yeah! they are right and what they have offered us are fine products such as the ETIOS CROSS, FIAT PUNTO AVENTURA HONDA WRV & HYUNDAI i20 ACTIVE and many more.
So how are all these cars different from their close siblings? Simple! they draw their inspiration from SUV’s. What they get is a lot of chrome and matte body cladding and a bit bigger set of wheels which transpires in a compact crossover and is the ultimate choice of many INDIAN buyers. Look at the success of VITARA BREZZA and the recently launched TATA NEXON and you will understand what I mean. So now FORD puts a step forward and upgrades it’s FORD FIGO to FORD FREESTYLE and makes us more spoilt for choices. So what’s new in it….? Come let’s take a sneak peek.
The FREESTYLE gets a refreshed front with a revised grille and it makes the car look more bold due to its black finish and a revised bumper matte black body cladding which surrounds the bottom end of the car, and not to forget the wheel arches too at the front it has a matte silver mold which gives an impression of a sump guard but its not in real.
Then it gets the roof rails apart from this aesthetic changes. It gets a set of bigger wheels measuring 185/60 R15 tyres for the sprint. Bigger wheels means more ground clearance. All these traits which are borrowed from SUV converts the bugs to look like the beasts. The cabin is the same as Figo with few tweaks and added to that is a 6.5 inch touchscreen infotainment system.
As we know FORD is one automotive company which does not compromise on safety so the top trim gets 6 AIRBAGS too. But there’s one thing we noticed. The FREESTYLE looks a tad similar to the FIAT AVVENTURA from the front due to its similar headlight design and broad grille. The one with little eye for details might mistake it for the FIAT AVVENTURA but the overall package seems tight.
Coming to its heart, the FREESTYLE is powered By FORD’s DRAGON Series engines which is developed in India for both INDIAN & GLOBAL Markets. For now, FORD has offered the FREESTYLE with a 3 Cylinder 1.2 litre engine which churns out 96 HP and creates a healthy TORQUE of 120 NM which is pretty healthy for a car of this size. The engine is mated to a 5 speed gearbox from GETRAG. FORD also plans to get a 100 HP 1.5 ltr DIESEL variant which drives the ECOSPORT but we think it will be slightly de-tuned for the FREESTYLE. An AMT PETROL variant also seems to be in line up. We believe the suspension setup will be on the softer side as compared to it’s sibling. We are eager to get our hands on the FREESTYLE so that we can share more about the TRUE SIDE of the FREESTYLE story so stay glued for a real-time review of the FORD FREESTYLE.
