“Alfa Romeo Automobiles” is a car manufacturer founded by a Frenchman named “Alexandre Darracq” as A.L.F.A (Anonima Lombarda Fabrrica Automobili) or in simple words “Lombard Automobile Factory Company” in 1910. The brand is well known for producing sporty vehicles and also for its rich racing heritage.
Since 1923, the “Quadrifoglio” logo (also called the ‘cloverleaf’) has been the symbol of Alfa Romeo racing cars and since WWII, it has also been used to designate the higher trim models of the range. The logo consists of a green cloverleaf with four leaves, contained within a white triangle. The original logo however was contained in a white square. The Quadrifoglio was designed as a sign of respect towards Alfa Romeo’s four-man factory racing team called the “Alfa Corse” which consisted of Ugo Sivocci, Antonio Ascari, Giuseppe Campari and none other than Enzo Ferrari, the four drivers symbolizing the four corners of the white square. However, after the tragic death of Ugo Sivocci in 1923 the logo was changed to contain a white triangle but retained the name “Quadrifoglio” as a sign of respect to Alfa’s original racing team. Since then every car produced by Alfa Romeo has featured the Quadrifoglio badge but none of them have made it famous quite like this car.
This is the “2018 Alfa Romeo Guilia”. With body lines that can be traced back to Alfa’s vast racing heritage and aerodynamic capabilities that can put to shame even the best sport sedans, Alfa Romeo claims that the Guilia is one of the best cars they have ever built.
Alfa Romeo is well known for designing cars that look much different from any other, hence giving them a distinct look. The Guilia has three air vents at the front that direct air into the radiator and engine for cooling and at the same time create downforce over the front axle. The vents under the headlights split off to send air inside the wheels to cool the brakes as well and to top it off it also has a rear diffuser and a sporty Quad-Exhaust setup.
To keep up with the luxury standards of the market Alfa Romeo has stocked this car with a lot of goodies. An LED touchscreen infotainment centre, a well designed gauge cluster that looks timeless, a three-spoked carbon fibre steering wheel that contains the engine start/stop button and having the interiors covered in leather and carbon fibre giving the car a luxurious feeling.
The Alfa Romeo Guilia is powered by Quadrifoglio’s high performance 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 spitting out 505hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. The Guilia comes with two transmission options, a ZF 6-speed manual transmission or ZF’s 8-speed automatic transmission. The Guilia can do 0-100 kmph in just 3.9 secs and tops out at 307 kmph. This model is also fitted with a Torque-Vectoring Rear Differential capable of sending 100% of the engines power to the left or right wheel. The Guilia has four driving modes which can be selected by Alfa Romeo’s “DNA Dynamic Control Selector” which is located on the centre console.
The “Advanced Efficiency” mode uses cylinder cancellation to improve fuel economy.
Ever since its inception Alfa Romeo has seen many ownership changes, currently being owned by “Fiat Chrysler Automobiles”. The 2018 Alfa Romeo Guilia will compete with the likes of the BMW M4, Mercedes AMG C63 and the Cadillac ATS-V. However, with many reviews already being done between the four cars the Guilia comes second only to the Mercedes AMG C63, beating out the BMW and Cadillac by miles.
