Every GEARHEAD dreams to get a set of wheels that gives him sense of freedom, a sense which feels like touching the air. Yeah, I am talking about bikes. There were days wherein people had very little choice of bikes. Today, everything has changed and we are spoilt for choices. But we live in a society which demands a lot from the machine. We want performance, mileage & low maintenance all in one package. Then we want it all priced cheap and if not then start comparing “Arre yeh bhi 150, voh bhi 150. Then why the hell this bike is costlier than the other. Kyu, kyu, kyu……….? ”. Now talking about the pricing factor, one must also focus on the kind of technology that goes into the bike and the difference it makes in the performance
So when you talk about this, let us lead you with an example. The real revolution in the biking history of India, the YAMAHA R15 which brought many firsts in performance bike but before the R15 it was the Hero Honda which brought a change in the four stroke category. The CBZ which came with an air cooled 165 CC engine, brought in the aggressive riding dynamics with broad tires and a bike using basic technology and single tube chassis with amazing stability but then it was a bike which needed a lot of care and it made holes in the owners pocket due costly parts and running cost. Then came the Bajaj Pulsar, which took the 2-wheeler segment by storm. It was a traditional bike with huge tank of 18 liters and it came with two variants i.e. 150 and 180 CC with low running and maintenance cost. Then came the Yamaha with its R15 in the market which was all in all a typical 150 CC performance bike which brought it the Delta Box frame in the bike but not the first one to do so as LML had this introduced before the YAMAHA R15.
